Global-scale Natural Disaster Research Field
Research field Research: understanding the generation mechanism of low-probability but high-consequence global-scale natural disasters such as great earthquakes and tsunamis. Education: lectures and student advising in Graduate School of Science (Department of Geophysics or Department of Earth Science)
Qualification Requirements The applicant should have a doctoral degree (or Ph. D.) in a related discipline, and attained highly evaluated scientific findings. A doctoral degree from a university outside Japan is preferable. Relevant experience for more than two years as a researcher at a university or a research institute outside of Japan is also preferable. Applications at the full professor level require a well-established research program with a record of external funding.

Basically all documents must be written in English. Documents shall be submitted in A4 or letter sized paper with your name written on each document. A CD containing digital files of the documents in PDF or Word format shall be attached. The documents submitted will not be returned to the applicants.
Term of Employment Starting from June 2012 or later, on the following contact basis
Full Professor: 10 years in the first term, extensions are possible, after a review in the institute.
Associate Professor: 10 years in the first term, only one extension is possible, after a review in the institute.
Salary Payment will be made in accordance with the University’s rules and regulations.
