Earthquake Disaster Research Laboratory

We research and develop technologies and application of “Environmentally conscious anti-earthquake procedures” and “Next-generation earthquake early warning system” to mitigate earthquake disasters. We give high priority to differentiation and zoning of the regional earthquake risks based on high precision earthquake evaluation concerning the local ground environment, and we also develop high precision earthquake estimate and earthquake disaster control technologies using real time earthquake observation data.

The followings are the tasks to be accomplished in the future.

  1. Quake resistant performance evaluation and micro zoning of regional buildings
  2. Development of “Next-generation earthquake early warning system” connected with structure health monitoring
  3. Development of real time ground motion prediction with high accuracy using wave form data at a front site
  4. Transmission and utilization of disaster prevention information using earthquake warning system
  5. Earthquake risk evaluation and management of buildings by early warning system
  6. Efficient technology for disaster mitigation in urban areas
  7. Technology development for real time ubiquitous society
  8. Anti-earthquake procedures and optimization of layout
